2011 didn’t start out the best. I spent the first couple of months in the midst of a breakup that got very messy due to stupid actions on both our behalves, but I learned a lot from it and definitely came out much better off for it. When I sit down and think about how awesome life got once I got rid of the things holding me back, I am 100% certain that I made the right decision by deciding to spend this year being single.
This year was all about grabbing life by the balls and having the kind of experiences I will never forget, and I’m pretty sure I did a damn good job of that. I spent a whole lot of time interstate, mostly in Melbourne, working the strip club scene and attending football games. I’ve been a North Melbourne supporter since I was a kid but this year was the first time I really had the opportunity to go to Melbourne regularly to watch them play, and along with that I was able to get to know some of the players and met an awesome group of supporters who welcomed me into their crew with open arms.
My absolute favourite thing about this year was all the wonderful new friends I made. I have always been a very shy person (believe it or not!) and have never been the kind of person to have heaps of friends, and after coming out of a long-term relationship I found myself feeling quite isolated with no close, single female friends to go out and party with. So, I took a big step to overcome my shyness and started regularly posting on my Facebook to say, “Single girls, I don’t care if we’ve never met before, come out for drinks with me.” Through doing this I have met SO many amazing, fun, open-minded girls that I know I will remain friends with forever. I feel like I am saying goodbye to 2011 with a tighter group of close, trusted girlfriends than I have ever had before.
And then, of course, I won Penthouse Pet of the Year. Wow. Sometimes it still seems a bit surreal to me because I really, genuinely never believed I could win. I got not one, but three Australian Penthouse covers this year, and was given the opportunity to travel all over the country and get paid very well for it. Hand in hand with this came so many other experiences that have meant the absolute fucking world to me, such as being interviewed on Triple M in the studio with James Brayshaw and Billy Brownless, attending a few parties for Triple M as a special guest, hosting a video game launch in Sydney, and recently, my new gig as a DJ/MC on the main stage at Flashdance. I feel so incredibly lucky that I get to do so much cool shit.
So it’s the second to last day of the year and looking back on it, I think I kicked some serious ass in 2011. This year I got paid to travel and party, I woke up in the Chateau Marmont in LA on my birthday and then partied the night away in Vegas, I walked the red carpet at the Playboy Mansion, I met SO many awesome people, I won Penthouse Pet of the freaking Year and had more fun than I ever imagined possible. Yeah, there were a few downers, mostly caused by stupid boys who really weren’t worth my tears, but as a whole it was an incredible year.
I made you my bitch, 2011… thanks for everything. Bring on 2012, cos I’m ready to dominate :)
